Register.com can now process domain registrations for names up to 63
characters long

New York, NY – January 11, 2000 – Register.com, Inc., one of the leading
Internet domain name registrars, today announced its customers can now
register extra-long domain names, such as
www.register-dot-com-introduces-long-domain-names.com. Previously limited
to 26 characters, register.com customers can now visit www.register.com to
register names up to 63 characters long, or 67 characters including the
.com, .net or .org.

“Our customers rely on us to offer the latest domain name registration
services, so we’re particularly happy to include longer domain names among
our service offerings,” said register.com CEO and President Richard Forman.
“By lengthening the number of characters from 26 to 63, we’re enabling our
customers to choose from an almost endless selection of new domain names.
As a result, they can now register corporate names as well as products and
slogans that were previously too long, providing them with more choices for
either their primary domain name or additional names that can be used to
drive more traffic to their existing site.”

Formerly, register.com limited the number of characters that could be used
for .com, .net and .org domain names to 26, because many browsers and
applications, such as e-mail, cannot accommodate extra long domain names.
Although this is still the case, due to popular demand, register.com has
begun offering long domain name registrations together with a caveat to
make our customers aware of the potential limitations. To register extra
long names, our customers can use the same easy to use 6-step process on
register.com.
