[NPL] CanOpener Goes Cross-Platform

For Immediate Release

CanOpener goes cross-platform

Pleasantville, NY — March 18, 1999

Abbott Systems (http://www.abbottsys.com) said today it is now
shipping a Windows version of CanOpener, its popular universal file
opener currently celebrating its 10th year on the Mac.

CanOpener 1.0 for Windows lets users search and retrieve text from
just about any PC file, including damaged files, using a variety of
special text filters.
Special text filters allow users to..

– Extract Names, Phone Numbers, URLs, Email, Web and IP Addresses.
– Strip HTML Coding.
– Remove extra Carriage Returns and blank spaces from email and Web
text.
– Extract important sentences such as questions or anything
containing $’s and numbers.
– Rapidly find clean text in files that contain huge amounts of ‘garbage’

Abbott said many CanOpener users work in a mixed environment of Macs
and PCs. Until now, the only way for a user to open a PC file with
CanOpener was to move the file over to their Mac… but now users can
run CanOpener on a PC and open files directly. A great time saver!

CanOpener for Windows works with Win95/98/NT and costs $39. It can be
purchased online from Abbott’s website:
http://www.abbottsys.com/cowin.html or by calling TOLL-FREE
1-800-552-9157.
