[NPL] OTSessionWatcher 2.0

Stairways releases OTSessionWatcher 2.0

Perth, Western Australia — 3 March 1999 — Stairways Software, Pty
Ltd, today announced the release of version 2.0 of OTSessionWatcher
an update to our Open Transport Stream debugging utility.

What is OTSessionWatcher?

OTSessionWatcher allows you to examine the data transmitted through
Open Transport UDP and TCP streams. This is useful for debugging
network applications and network problems, learning about networking
protocols, or watching for strange or unwanted TCP traffic.

If you have ever wondered what your computer was saying when it was
talking to other machines on the network, this program is the answer.

OTSessionWatcher is one of those simple, powerful tools that makes
you wonder how you ever lived without it.

OTSessionWatcher requires a PowerPC (Power Macintosh or clone) and
Open Transport 1.1.1 or later.

What’s New?

OTSessionWatcher 2.0 adds support for watching UDP streams as well as
displaying more complete stream information including source and
destination IP and port numbers as well as extra packets such as Bind
and Connect.

Features

* OTSessionWatcher can examine all Open Transport UDP and TCP streams
(using “OT AutoPush Support” from Apple), allowing you to examine
networking traffic for any application on your computer.
* OTSessionWatcher can display multiple streams simultaneously, either in a
single window, or one stream in each window. This allows you to watch
sessions where many different connections are made (such as a web browser
downloading a page with pictures).
* OTSessionWatcher can display the stream data in text or binary mode
(automatically or manually).
* OTSessionWatcher displays the soruce port and destination IP and port of
each TCP stream and for each UDP packet.
* OTSessionWatcher displays extra stream packets to allow more complete
debugging.

What People Have Said About OTSessionWatcher

“Wow! Way cool.” – Rob Chandhok, Beta tester, Aug 1997.

“I love this! It is exactly what I needed. I registered it 10 minutes after
I ran it…thank you.” – Steve Dimse K4HG (k4hg@tapr.org)

“THANKS FOR STREAM WATCHER! It already saved me the purchase price in
debugging, so the registration’s on the way.”
– Richard E. Brown (Richard.E.Brown@dartmouth.edu)

“Just got my hands on [OTSessionWatcher] 1.0, *great product*!”
– JaV (javen@dds.nl)

“Looks like another great piece of software.”
– David M. Dantowitz (david@dantowitz.com)

“All right, guys. Great work (especially Quinn). Thanks a lot for
[OTSessionWatcher], I’m pretty sure MANY people are very thankful for it.”
– Jakub Nesetril (nesetril@cuni.cz)

More Detail

OTSessionWatcher displays all the data sent through any UDP or TCP
stream on your Macintosh, whether the connection originated on your
Mac or not. It displays each stream in its own window (or if you
prefer, all data can be directed to a single window).

OTSessionWatcher can examine any connection without requiring special
versions of applications, so it opens up networking to closer
scrutiny. This in turn allows you to find problems that might
otherwise go unnoticed.

Also, because it can watch many streams of data simultaneously, it
can allow you to debug complex problems involving interactions
between multiple clients and servers that might otherwise be very
difficult.

Peter is probably best known for Anarchie Pro, but he also co-wrote
the Internet Config system with Quinn “The Eskimo”, he was a
programmer on Metrowerks’ Java release and he also authored the most
widely used FTP server for the Macintosh, NetPresenz. Peter is a
prolific author of high-quality Macintosh software.

Stairways Software distributes software using the shareware
principles: try before you buy and minimal or no marketing costs. As
a result shareware costs a fraction of the price of most other
