Maxum Development Upgrades Phantom Web Crawler

Streamwood, IL, June 2, 1998 — Maxum Development Corporation, a leading
developer of Macintosh and Windows Web server tools, today begins shipping
version 2.1 of Phantom, its acclaimed Web crawler and search engine. The
new version is a maintenance upgrade with numerous improvements in
indexing, customization and reliability.

“Phantom’s combination of price and Web crawling capability has always made
it a uniquely powerful solution.” said John O’Fallon, President of Maxum.
“This upgrade continues to drive Phantom into a preeminent position among
Web site search and indexing tools on both Mac and Windows platforms.”

With the 2.1 release, Maxum has focused on improving the usability of
Phantom’s extensive feature set. For example, hosting several independent
“virtual search engines” with a single copy of Phantom is now more
flexible. Also, indexing multiple Web sites can now be done either via the
Web server, by indexing files locally or a combination of the two. This
capability is ideal for Web hosting services that need to cost-effectively
provide search capability for many Web sites.

Phantom’s search interface and results format can now be completely
customized in version 2.1. Web developers can tailor the HTML pages Phantom
uses to provide search forms and response pages, and can now select a
combination of search options with single or multiple input fields of any
type. Webmasters can also localize the entire search and results user
interface to seamlessly integrate Phantom into sites for German, French,
Greek and other European languages.

An upgraded database engine for version 2.1 has increased Phantom’s
searching performance, allows more simultaneous searches and increases the
number of simultaneous connections to its built-in Web server. Reliability
is also significantly improved.

Phantom is priced at $395 and is available for Macintosh, Windows 95 and
Windows NT. Phantom 2.1 is a free upgrade for all current users. Orders can
be placed on-line at Maxum’s Web site at http://www.maxum.com/, by mail or
fax, or by phone at (800) 813-3410.

Phantom is also included in the Professional version of the MaxumPack,
which puts several of Maxum’s essential Macintosh Internet server tools
into a single package designed for large sites, Internet service providers
and corporate intranets.

Users can download a demonstration version of Phantom 2.1 from Maxum’s Web
site. The downloadable demo package includes a fully-functional,
time-limited version of Phantom and electronic documentation.
