SERVLETEXEC PRODUCT LINE EXPANDED

More Features, More Platforms

Alpharetta, Georgia – November 3, 1997 – New Atlanta Communications, LLC
announces the expansion of their ServletExec(tm) product line to Microsoft
and Netscape web servers running on Windows NT and UNIX operating systems.
Previously announced for Mac OS, ServletExec adds support for the Java(tm)
Servlet API for web servers on these platforms. ServletExec will implement
version 1.1 of the Java Servlet API for all supported platforms and web
servers.

Servlets are Java(tm)-based alternatives to traditional CGI scripts and
proprietary C/C++ web server extensions. Servlets provide better
performance and scalability than CGI scripts; they are easier to implement
and more reliable than C/C++ extensions. There is growing industry
awareness of the compelling advantages of server-side Java and the Java
Servlet API.

ServletExec 1.0, available now in public beta, implements the complete
feature set of the Java Servlet API 1.0 and provides full compatibility
with the Java Web Server, including:

– servlet aliases
– servlet chains
– servlet filters
– remote loading of servlets
– reloading of modified servlets without restarting the web server
– support for servlets within .zip/.jar archives
– reloading of modified servlets within .zip/.jar archives
– support for configurable servlet initialization arguments
– support for the (SERVLET) tag in server-side includes (SSI) pages

“ServletExec is the only servlet engine–whether third-party add-on or
built-in by the server vendor–that implements the full feature set of the
Java Servlet API 1.0,” said Vince Bonfanti, President of New Atlanta
Communications. “Only by using ServletExec can servlet developers be
assured of full compatibility across platforms and web servers, including
compatibility with the Java Web Server.” ServletExec is also the only
servlet engine that supports every major commercial web server platform.
“Those are our goals,” said Bonfanti, “to provide the most compatible,
feature-rich and broadest line of servlet engines available anywhere.”

“We are pleased to see today’s announcement from New Atlanta
Communications,” said Dr. Lew Tucker, director of developer relations at
Sun Microsystems’ JavaSoft division. “The ServletExec product line is an
excellent implementation of the Java Servlet API, that is helping to
further Java’s ‘Write Once, Run Anywhere’ proposition.”

ServletExec 1.1, planned for release in Q1’98, will support the complete
feature set of the Java Servlet API 1.1, including:

– page compilation (embedded Java(tm) in HTML pages)
– user session tracking
– HTML templates

ServletExec 1.1 will be a free upgrade for registered owners of ServletExec
1.0. In addition to enhancing Microsoft, Netscape, and Mac OS web servers,
ServletExec 1.1 will implement the Java Servlet API 1.1 for the Lotus
Domino Go Webserver. Support for Novell’s IntranetWare web server is under
investigation.

In addition to the full Java Servlet API, ServletExec supports multiple
virtual servers in multi-hosting configurations. This unique feature is
essential to allowing Internet Service Providers (ISPs) to offer servlet
hosting services to their customers. The full range of servlet
configuration options can be defined separately for each virtual server.
