Additionally, the guide shows a screenshot noting that iPad Air 2 will be able to use Burst Mode when taking photos. Poodle SSL 3.0 Flaw Poses Web Browser Security Threat

Google has discovered a 15 year old flaw in SSL 3.0, a security protocol that turns out isn't quite a s secure as originally thought, that could let remote attackers highjack Web browser sessions and gain access to personal data, like Web-based email. The flaw takes advantage of a browser's ability to fall back from the more secure TLS protocol to SSL where attackers can then gain access to session cookies on victim's computers.

The Mac Observer Spin: The tech world has been moving away from SSL in favor of TLS, and finds like this will only help push SSL to its inevitable demise.

A recent U2 interview posted on Facebook saw the band members taking questions from fans, and one of the questions concerned the automatic free download of U2's Songs of Innocence album to iTunes playlists: "Can you please never release an album on iTunes that automatically downloads to peoples [sic] playlists ever again? GT Advanced COO Sold Stock After Missed Apple...

GT Advanced Technologies COO Daniel Squiller sold off US$1.2 million in company stock in May and put a plan in place to sell an additional $750,000 over the following months leading up to the company's October bankruptcy filing. The timing of the sales came after GTAT failed to meet milestone points in its sapphire glass production for Apple, and could raise some eyebrows because company CEO Tom Gutierrez was selling off his stock, too, including 9,000 shares the day before the iPhone 6 was introduced.

The Mac Observer Spin: Coincidence or not, Mr. Squiller's stock sale could be seen as a problem because he was very much in a position to know that GTAT's deal with Apple was going south.

Charge Your Phone by Walking with Ampy Kickstarter

Yeah, this is frakking cool. It's a Kickstarter project for Ampy, a portable charger for iPhone (or anything that powers from USB) that you charge by walking around. Ampy turns kinetic energy into electrical energy and stores it in an internal battery. According to the Kickstarter description, 10,000 steps is enough to generate three hours of battery life on your smartphone. 30-60 minutes on a bicycle will do the same thing. Strap it on your working dog? Who knows, but the idea of an iPhone powered by dog awesomeness brings a huge smile to my face. Oh, and Ampy can also be charged by plugging it into a wall socket. With 28 days to go, the developers have already raised $128,000 with an original goal of $100,000, but there are still ways to get a discounted Ampy and support the company's efforts. Flight Attendants Sue to Stop Gate-to-gate...

Attorneys representing the Association of Flight Attendants-CWA argued in the U.S. Court of Appeals late last week that the ban on in-flight electronics the FAA lifted a year ago should be reinstated for the safety of airline passengers. The Flight Attendants union thinks portable electronics use during takeoff and landing poses a serious risk and that the FAA made a mistake when it opened the doors for airlines to allow their use from gate to gate.

The Mac Observer Spin: Unless flight attendants can come up with compelling evidence to show gate-to-gate electronics use is a serious safety risk, you'll most likely be able to keep playing Angry Birds on your flights. And with the ban lift nearly a year behind us, passengers wouldn't take going back to stowing their electronics very well at all.

How To Create a Mac Keyboard Shortcut For Print To...

You may have seen the "PDFâ" button lurking in the bottom of a print dialog, and you may have even used it from time to time to create a digital version of a document in a quest to reduce paper. If you haven't noticed it, there's a PDF button in the bottom left corner of the print dialog, so you can print something to PDF instead of having to use ink and paper. Sometimes you just need a PDF, so having this option built in is awesome. What's even more awesome is when you can save some time by creating a keyboard shortcut to do this for you automatically. David Sparks has covered this with the video below. It sounds odd, but trust me, this is the "microwave" of Mac tweaks. At first you'll wonder why you thought you needed it, and in a month you'll wonder how you lived without it. For bonus points, work a little dark magic with Hazel or other automation software and streamline a bunch of busy work so you can spend more time on important things, like your Netflix queue or learning to...

Review: Uniq Aircraft Clear for iPhone 6

Coverage isn’t the main selling point of Aircraft Clear — the aluminum bumper covers the volume controls and sleep/wake button, and offers bottom port cutouts, but there’s really no lip to speak of on the front edges for protection. The fit isn’t perfect either, as a thin layer of felt can be found inside the bumper — it may protect the device from the bumper, but it also tends to make the volume controls dip slightly inward.…

Icahn to Apple: Buy Back More Shares

Apple has US$133 billion in cash and big-name investor Carl Icahn thinks it's time for the iPhone and iPad maker to use some of that money to buy back more stock. In an open letter to Apple CEO Tim Cook, Mr. Icahn said he thinks the company's stock is currently sitting at about half its value, and that's an opportunity not to be passed up.

The Mac Observer Spin: Carl Icahn is right about this being a good time for Apple to buy back more of its stock, but don't think his open letter is an altruistic move. This is all about business and increasing his own profit. That's just how business works.

First Look: Uniq Executif and Lolita for iPhone 6

Uniq has introduced two new folio-style cases for iPhone 6, Executif ($30) and Lolita ($30). According to Uniq, Executif is made from genuine leather despite its surprisingly low price, and contains two slots for holding cards in the inner flap. Typical of many folio cases, the plastic shell that houses the phone provides little top or bottom coverage. Lolita is the same price but makes no genuine leather claims — the faux-leather case includes…

LearnToMod Offers Minecraft Customization

World-building games like Minecraft are very popular, and for some people the real fun is in the "mods," getting to add things like the local weather or turning everything into candy. If that's the part of Minecraft you like, there's now a way to build your own. LearnToMod is a project from ThoughtSTEM, a computer science education organization. There are two options: you can learn using Javascript, or by using "blocks", an easy way to learn concepts without worrying about syntax errors. For a pre-order price of $30, you get three months of access to a server, and a lifetime rate of $10 monthly for continued access. Also included are video tutorials and a browser-based coding environment, so getting started requires nothing more than a copy of Minecraft. Their pre-order is going through the end of the year.

Walter Isaacson’s ‘The Innovators’ Follows the Tech...

Simon & Schuster released Walter Isaacson's new book The Innovators on Tuesday. This book builds on the research begun for his killer biography Steve Jobs, but takes a much broader look at the many innovator who took part in the creation of "tech" as we know it today. He begins with Ada Lovelace, Lord Byronâs daughter, who pioneered computer programming in the 1840s. Which, come on, is cool. The book also looks at folks such as Vannevar Bush, Alan Turing, John von Neumann, J.C.R. Licklider, Doug Engelbart, Robert Noyce, Bill Gates, Steve Wozniak, Steve Jobs, Tim Berners-Lee, and Larry Page. From the publisher: "This is the story of how their minds worked and what made them so inventive. Itâs also a narrative of how their ability to collaborate and master the art of teamwork made them even more creative." You can buy it on iBooks for US$8.99. Amazon has the hard back for $21.81 and the Kindle version for $8.49.
