Shipping times slip for 15-inch MacBook Pro,...

When the shipping times slip, odds are something new is around the corner.

Apple has changed the shipping times for current 15-inch MacBook Pro orders placed today, the new estimates offering free delivery between June 6-8 in the United States, coinciding with its Worldwide Developers Conference next week.

This delay lends support to the rumor that Apple is planning to announce both a new MacBook Pro and 12-inch MacBook notebook at the WWDC keynote on June 5. The notebooks are expected to receive internal improvements only, including an upgrade to Intel’s faster Kaby Lake processors.

The 13-inch MacBook Pro models are still in stock with delivery as early as tomorrow in the United States and several other countries. It’s unknown as to whether this is because Apple plans to refresh only the 15-inch MacBook Pro next week, or if supplies of the 13-inch models are simply more plentiful ahead of WWDC.

Kaby Lake processors appropriate for a 13-inch...

New elements of Apple Park campus begin to surface...

This is kind of neat.

In a recent update to Apple Maps’ data, Apple has included enhanced coverage of the Apple Park campus, the app now displaying 3D building models, walkways and other points of interest across the sprawling grounds.

The new data includes a comprehensive “Map” video with highly detailed 3D building models, guides to the roads running in and out of the campus, traffic directions, pedestrian walkways and more. The new maps also display a small manmade pond that sits on the grounds.

In addition, the Steve Jobs Theater has received its own Maps informational tag, although the ring-shaped office building along with ancillary buildings like the R&D facility, fitness center and above ground parking structures also lack labels.

Apple first began to include Apple Park mapping data to the Maps app back in March, offering interested users a sneak peak of what was to come. These images have not been updated and still depict the facility as...

Here’s what I want to see in macOS 10.13

If macOS 10.13 isn’t unveiled at Apple’s Worldwide Developer Conference keynote on on Monday, June 5, the world will end. Well, okay, I’m exaggerating, but the tech world will be shocked.

So what do I want to see in the Mac operating system update? Several things (hey, I’m greedy).

1) Apple brought Siri, its personal digital assistant, to the Mac with the debut of macOS Sierra. However, unlike with certain iOS devices, there's no “Hey, Siri" voice activation. I'd love to see that for the Mac — though, admittedly, if you have a Mac, iPhone and iPad in the same room, saying “Hey, Siri” would probably result in some interesting results.

There are rumors that Siri and Spotlight might be combined for a unified user experience. While this isn’t a prime request or concern of mine, it might be cool. With Siri integrated into Spotlight, Mac users could type Siri requests and get the same search results with voice or text.

2) Along the same lines, there's no Mac...

Comment: China shows the future of mobile payment as...

Listening to some of the Apple Pay stats put forward by the company, you might get the impression that the payment method is taking the market by storm. In Apple’s Q1 2017 earnings call, Tim Cook told us that the number of Apple Pay users tripled year-on-year, and that transaction volumes increased by 500%.

In Q2, we finally got some actual numbers, at least for the US: a total of 4.5M transactions to date.

But while these are big numbers, they are still a drop in the ocean given that total card transactions are numbered in the tens of billions each year. Viewed in this light, Apple Pay...

App Store Icon Resizer is a handy tool for developers

By Aaron Lee

App Store Icon Resizer is a useful developer tool for macOS 10.7 and higher. It only costs 99 cents and is available at the Mac App Store.

With a single action, App Store Icon Resizer takes care of creating all sizes of app icons that are needed for every app in the Apple App Store. The tool prompts the user with a window, where the basic icon with a resolution of 1024x1024 pixels can be dragged in.

After choosing the devices that the icon is meant to be used for, all necessary sizes can be exported to a user defined folder. A checkbox allows the user to generate .xcassets. The JSON file is generated along with the icons. After choosing the devices that the icon is meant to be used for, all necessary sizes can be exported to a user defined folder.

How to Force Quit an unresponsive app in macOS Sierra

Sometimes a Mac app acts up and you have to kill it. Well, not actually kill it, but you may have to force it to quit so you can relaunch it. Here’s how you use Force Quit in macOS Sierra:

Choose Force Quit from the Apple () menu, or press Command-Option-Esc.

  •  (This is similar to pressing Control-Alt-Delete on a PC.)
  • Select the app in the Force Quit window, then click Force Quit.

Of course, you should try quitting it in the normal way first by choosing Quit from the app's menu in the menu bar, or press Command (⌘)- .

(This how-to is based on my experiences and info on Apple's support pages — where the images come from.)
