Apple Co-founder Thinks Apple Is Now Too Big a...

When it comes to the next great tech breakthroughs, Steve Wozniak isn't betting on the company he founded. Instead, he believes Tesla is at the forefront of anticipating the world to come. From a report: Interviewed by Bloomberg on what are likely to be the biggest tech breakthroughs in the coming years, and which companies are likely to make them, Woz didn't list Apple as a contender. He said, "look at the companies like Google and Facebook and Apple and Microsoft that changed the world -- and Tesla included. They usually came from young people. They didn't spring out of big businesses." Small businesses, he argued, take bigger risks -- and their founders create the products they really want, without the dilution that occurs with multiple decision-makers. "I think Tesla is on the best direction right now. They've put an awful lot of effort into very risky things. I'm going to bet on Tesla," he added.

It is kind of amazing how much advancement is going on in the autonomous car space. A year ago, we were mostly talking about cars that seemed comparatively boring, because they just drove on the surface. How quaint -- how 2016. Now when we mention "boring," we may be talking about Elon Musk's new underground tunneling idea. However, a little company called "Airbus" disagrees. It plans to start testing its autonomous flying car this year in Silicon Valley -- I expect so it can buzz Musk's Tesla plant there.

Most notably, an orange outline traces the purported screen area of the iPhone 8. Working Theory In Jet Crash: IPhone In Cockpit Is To...

Apple Insider reports:
Apple on Friday said that it's open to cooperation with French authorities, who are exploring the possibility that two of the company's devices were linked to the crash of EgyptAir Flight 804 in 2016. The flight's first officer may have plugged an iPhone 6s and an iPad mini 4 into the wrong socket in the jet's cockpit, French officials told Le Parisien. That may have triggered runaway heat, in turn sparking a fire.

At the moment, the investigation is being helped by an engineer from the French National Center for Scientific Research, as well as two people fron the French defense ministry, including a physics professor and an engineer specializing in batteries. Results from the investigation should be submitted by Sept. 30. Apple told the Parisien that it wasn't aware of evidence linking its devices to the EgyptAir disaster.

Apple Orchard Road opens in Singapore

Apple Orchard Road in Singapore opened Saturday to thousands of customers who queued to explore Apple’s first store in Southeast Asia. Customers were greeted by Angela Ahrendts, Apple’s senior vice president of Retail, and the store’s 237 employees when doors opened at 10 a.m. (local time).

The store sports high-flung lighted ceilings, familiar wooden display tables, tree planters and a large, centrally-located television screen. Twin curved Castagna stone staircases are the architectural highlight of the store. A 25-foot canopy protects Apple Orchard Road from tropical sunlight and provides shelter from the rain.

Apple will soon have 498 retail stores in 22 countries and an online store available in 39 countries. Apple Stores around the world welcome over 1 million customers a day...

Patent trollin’: Uniloc sues Apple yet again

Another day, another lawsuit. AppleInsider reports that Uniloc, a “patent troll,” has filed suit — actually, suits — against Apple claiming, naturally, patent infringment.

Filed with the patent holder friendly Eastern Texas District Court, Uniloc's three lawsuit alleges infringement of three patents reassigned from Hewlett-Packard and 3Com that involve a method by which a temperature sensor is used to monitor battery heat during charge and discharge events. Current is subsequently limited to prevent overheating and extend the life of the battery. Uniloc claims the Mac, iPhone, iPad, iPod, and Apple Watch all use temperature sensors to moderate battery charge and draw, and infringe the patents.

A “patent troll” is an individual or an organization that purchases and holds patents for unscrupulous purposes such as stifling...
