Google's Pixel Wins a Place in the Sun

Google's Pixel smartphone, which made its debut last month, has gathered some high praise from reviewers. "The Google Pixel is now the best Android smartphone you can buy," wrote Joanna Stern.
"The other leading contender was disqualified due to spontaneous combustion," she added, referring to Samsung's doomed Galaxy Note7, which was recalled for safety reasons. Stern was impressed with Pixel's display; its high pixel count made the blacks in photos appear deeper, colors more vibrant, and everything sharper.

I frequently friends and family toward Apple's refurbished store to get decent deals on Macs and iPads. The selection isn't comprehensive but it's pretty good, and once a device has been on the market for a few months it's usually possible to save a few hundred dollars without really giving up anything. Up until now, though, Apple has never offered iPhones through its refurbished store, something it finally did for the first time today.

As of this writing, Apple is only selling iPhone 6S models in 16GB capacities and 6S models in 16GB and 64GB capacities—per usual, we'd recommend...

Up until now, Apple has never sold refurbished iPhones on its online store. You could get a refurbished Mac, iPad, or even a niche device like an AirPort Extreme, but never an iPhone. Apple typically used its refurbished iPhone inventory as repair/replacements for or offloaded them to 3rd party resellers. That has seemingly changed today, as Apple is offering the iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus in its refurb store. more…

The Jelly-Grip Car Vent Mount from Square Jellyfish

Photo ©2016, Steven Sande

For those times where you want Siri (or Waze, or Google Maps) to give you directions, there's no better iPhone accessory than a car vent mount. The Jelly-Grip Car Vent Mount from Square Jellyfish (US$18.95, affiliate link) is a small vent mount that expands to hold even the iPhone 7 Plus, and it's perfect for those times when you want to use your iPhone in a rental car...or in your own car.

Design

The Jelly-Grip works with any car air vent with straight louvers. There's a small flat metal hook that can be extended by turning a knob, then retracted until it locks onto one of the louvers using the same knob. This ensures that the Jelly-Grip and your phone are going to stay in place, even when driving over bumpy dirt roads.

Connected to the mount by a ball-and-socket joint is a pair of spring mount "claws" that grip...
