Output Factory updated for Mac OS X Yosemite
Zevrix Solutions (http://www.zevrix.com) has announced Output Factory 1.511, compatibility update to its professional solution to automate output from Adobe InDesign.
Output Factory automates printing, exporting and post-processing from InDesign and offers batch output, variable file names, layer versioning, preflighting, detailed history and more. The new version makes Output Factory compatible with the recently released Mac OS X Yosemite and is offered as a free update to current users.
Output Factory supports printing as well as exporting to PDF, PostScript, EPS, Flash, INX, IDML, EPUB, INDD and several image formats. It costs US$169.95. A "lite" version is available for $119.95.

Hazel is ready for Mac OS X Yosemite
Noodlesoft has released Hazel 3.3 for Mac OS X support for Yosemite. Using Hazel's rule engine, you can create workflows that keep your files organized automatically.
Hazel also features options for managing your Trash and includes an intuitive application uninstaller. Hazel 3.3 adds the ability to have files match multiple rules. The new expanded preview interface allows users to how files match up against specific rules and also adds QuickLook support.

Apple Reports Fourth Quarter Results
Apple has announced financial results for its fiscal 2014 fourth quarter that ended Sept. 27. The company posted quarterly revenue of US$42.1 billion and quarterly net profit of $8.5 billion, or $1.42 per diluted share.
These results compare to revenue of $37.5 billion and net profit of $7.5 billion, or $1.18 per diluted share, in the year-ago quarter. Gross margin was 38% compared to 37% in the year-ago quarter. International sales accounted for 60 percent of the quarter’s revenue.
Apple’s board of directors has declared a cash dividend of $.47 per share of the company’s common stock. The dividend is payable on Nov. 13 to shareholders of record as of the close of business on Nov. 10.

Apple releases iOS 8.1
Apple has released iOS 8.1 with support for Apple Pay. It also allows Mac OS X Yosemite users to to access Continuity features such as SMS relay and Instant Hotspot.
iOS 8.1 also offers all iOS 8 users access to iCloud Photo Library and fixes some bugs. The over-the-ari upgrade also brings back the My Photo Stream album when the iCloud Photo Library isn't enabled.
CalDigit announces T3 with Thunderbolt 2

Offload is media and camera agnostic, and requires no additional equipment used in the normal footage offload process. Tablet sales growth is slowing in 2014 as new hardware buyers turn to alternative devices and existing users extend the lifetime of their tablets, according to Gartner, Inc. (www.gartner.com).
The research group estimates that tablet sales worldwide will reach 229 million units in 2014, an 11% increase from 2013, representing 9.5% of total worldwide sales of devices in 2014. In 2013, tablet sales grew 55%. Worldwide combined shipments of devices (PCs, tablets, ultramobiles and mobile phones) for 2014 are estimated to reach 2.4 billion units in 2014, a 3.2% increase from 2013.
"The device market continues to evolve, with the relationship between traditional PCs, different form factor ultramobiles (clamshells, hybrids and tablets) and mobile phones becoming increasingly complex," says Ranjit Atwal, research director at Gartner.

IDG has released a statement that it's putting its annual Macworld/iWorld expo on hold.
The statement reads: "We are announcing today that Macworld/iWorld is going on hiatus, and will not be taking place as planned in 2015. Our MacIT event, the world’s premiere event for deploying Apple in the enterprise, will continue next year with details to be announced in the coming weeks.

Grids is new Instagram client for Mac OS X
ThinkTime Creations has released Grids (http://thegridsapp.com), an Instagram client app for Mac OS X. Users can view their feed, profile, liked photos, popular photos and nearby photos as well as like, comment and save photos/videos, and more.
Grids' user interface works both at full screen and in widget-sized window. Photos are automatically resized according to the viewport size with customizable preferences.
Grids works with Mac OS X 10.7 or later, including Yosemite. It costs US$1.99 and is available worldwide through the Mac App Store in the Social Networking category. Grids requires users to have an Instagram account to use. Users can sign up for an account from their iPhone or Android Instagram app.
Maintain serves up OS X Yosemite version of Cocktail
Maintain has served up Cocktail 8.0 (http://cocktail.maintain.se), a new version of its Mac OS X utility that's compatible with Yosemite.
Cocktail is a general purpose utility for OS X that lets you clean, repair and optimize your Mac. Its features are arranged into five categories that help you manage various aspects of your computer.
Cocktail 8.0 (Yosemite Edition) requires OS X Yosemite to run. Cocktail (Mavericks Edition) for OS X 10.9, Cocktail (Mountain Lion Edition) for OS X 10.8 and Cocktail (Lion Edition) for OS X 10.7 are available for download from the Maintain website.

LEGO Movie videogame coming to the Mac on Oct. 16
Feral Interactive says The LEGO Movie Videogame will be released for the Mac on October 16. Developed by TT Games and published by Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment for consoles, handhelds and PC, its an adaptation of the hit film, The LEGO Movie. When released, the game will be available for download from a variety of digital partner sites worldwide including the Feral Store, Steam and the Mac App Store.

The new smartphones will be available in a total of 69 countries and territories by the end of the month. They're on track to be available in more than 115 countries by the end of the year, making this the fastest iPhone rollout ever.

Quark Software has announced the QuarkXPress Document Converter, a free tool that allows QuarkXPress users to open legacy QuarkXPress files in QuarkXPress 10. QuarkXPress 10 inherently supports documents created with QuarkXPress 7-10, but not legacy documents created in versions 3-6.
Through the QuarkXPress Document Converter user interface, QuarkXPress 10 users can select a single QuarkXPress document or an entire folder and convert the files to a format compatible with QuarkXPress 10. Prior to the availability of the QuarkXPress Document Converter, users needed to maintain a copy of QuarkXPress 9 in order to access old documents.

GT Advanced looking to 'wind down' operations
Sapphire crystal maker GT Advanced Technologies has asked the court’s permission to “wind down” operations at its manufacturing plant, less than a year after announcing a high-profile deal to supply the material to Apple, according to re/code (http://tinyurl.com/opcqz89).
U.S. Bankruptcy Judge Henry Boroff set a hearing for Oct. 15 in Springfield, Mass., to consider the motion. Earlier this week GT, Apple’s partner in a sapphire production facility in Arizona, together with certain of its direct and indirect subsidiaries (collectively, GT), commenced voluntary cases under chapter 11 of the Bankruptcy Code in the United States Bankruptcy Court for the District of New Hampshire.
Apple Watch to be featured on cover of Vogue China
Chinese model Liu Wen in Vogue China's November issue, wearing the Apple Watch on the cover of the magazine, notes MacRumors (www.macrumors.com).
Wen appears to be wearing the 18-karat yellow gold Edition Apple Watch, which features a red Modern Buckle Band. She's also featured wearing other Apple Watch models on a spread inside the magazine.
Apple unveiled the Apple Watch at a Sept. 9 media event. It's expected to go on sale in early 2015, perhaps by February.

Apple to stream its Oct. 16 event
Apple plans to offer a live stream of its October 16 media event. The company will provide a stream of the event both on its website and through a dedicated channel on the Apple TV.
The Oct. 16 event will begin at 10 a.m. (Pacific). The invitation’s tag line says, “it’s been way too long.” Almost certain to be unveiled are Mac OS X Yosemite and new iPad Airs and minis. Other possibilities are a new Mac mini, a revamped Apple TV, a Retina display iMac, a 12-inch iPad Pro and a 12-inch Retina display MacBook Air.

InfoLogic has releases MathMagic Lite 8.91, their free, complimentary equation editor for Mac OS X 10.6 or later.
On top of its interface to type math expressions and symbols via palettes and keyboard, it also reads various Math formats including MathML, LaTeX, Plain TeX, Wiki equations, ASCIIMath, MathJax, and MathType. MathMagic Lite for Mac can save expressions in PNG, SVG, JPG, Math-To-Speech and more.
Unlike the paid versions, MathMagic Lite has some less used or high end complex features disabled or removed, focusing more on K-12 math levels. Also, colors are converted to grey. Keylogger for Mac adds in-app "All Activity" view
WideStep Security Software (http://www.widestep.com) has announced Elite Keylogger for Mac 1.4, an update to the keystroke recorder software. Elite It allows invisible recording of most keystrokes, email, chats and websites visited, along with screen captures.
Version 1.4 brings a new in-app "All Activity" view that combines keystrokes, chat logs and website history. The new release also brings automatic log backup and recovery for Pro users.
Elite Keylogger for Mac is compatible with 64-bit Macs running Mac OS X 10.6.8 and later. There are two versions available: Free and Pro. The difference between the two is that the free version isn't invisible, and its logs don't display passwords and chat conversations.
