Kronos releases OpenCL 2.2 provisional spec
The Khronos Group, an open consortium of hardware and software companies, has announced the availability of the OpenCL 2.2, SYCL 2.2 and SPIR-V 1.1 provisional specifications.
OpenCL 2.2 incorporates the OpenCL C++ kernel language for enhanced parallel programming productivity. SYCL 2.2 enables host and device code to be contained in a single source file, while leveraging the full power of OpenCL C++. SPIR-V 1.1 extends the intermediate representation defined by Khronos with native support for shader and compute kernel features to fully support the OpenCL C++ kernel language.

Panamas introduces DirectFlow for the Mac
Panasas, which specializes in performance scale-out network-attached storage (NAS), has announced DirectFlow for Mac.
Previously only available for Linux, DirectFlow for Mac brings the performance benefits of parallel I/O over Ethernet to the Mac platform and OS X operating system. DirectFlow is the parallel data access protocol designed by Panasas and delivered as part of the integrated ActiveStor storage solution that incorporates the patented PanFS file system as well as NFS and SMB protocols. Currently deployed across a large variety of Linux-based computing environments, the DirectFlow protocol has proven success at delivering more than 10x the performance of workloads using traditional I/O protocols, according to David Sallak, vice president, products and solutions at Panasas.
