Two-thirds of those pages could be in color. Previously, a major barrier to color printing has been the cost of ink replacements, says Kratzberg. EcoTank printers are loaded and ready with up to two years of ink. When replacement ink is needed, the cost will reportedly be as low as US$12.99 per bottle, or $52 per set of bottles. For example, a standard home printer requires approximately 20 sets of cartridges to...

It has a built-in Fortran code editor with features like templates, syntax coloring and automatic comment formatting. FTranProjectBuilder provides project-wide search and allows terminal or file input. It automatically handles Fortran module dependencies, making compilation an easy one-click operation. It's the first 12 gigabits-per-second (Gb/s) SAS device to optimize dual channel throughput with up to 1800 megabytes-per-second (MB/s) sequential reads and offer multiple endurance choices within a single hardware and firmware design, he adds. The Seagate 1200.2 SAS SSD is engineered for original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) and system builder partners who design and build scalable, modular storage solutions for enterprise applications. The deal comes on the heels of Apple's lease of property from Ellis Partners in an already constructed building almost next door. The Cupertino-based company is the new tenant of the 290,000-square-foot building near the corner of Orchard Parkway and Charcott Avenue in North San Jose. Apple is currently building out their Campus 2 — the “spaceship campus” in Cupertino, California. It’s expected to launch next year.

Researchers say they've created a firmware bug that attacks...
Two researchers have found that several known vulnerabilities affecting the firmware of all the top PC makers can also hit the firmware of Macs, claims Wired ( What’s more, the article says that researchers have designed a proof-of-concept worm for the first time that would allow a firmware attack to spread automatically from MacBook to MacBook, without the need for them to be networked. "[The attack is] really hard to detect, it’s really hard to get rid of, and it’s really hard to protect against something that’s running inside the firmware,"says Xeno Kovah, one of the researchers who designed the worm, told Wired. "For most users that’s really a throw-your-machine-away kind of situation. Most people and organizations don’t have the wherewithal to physically open up their machine and electrically reprogram the chip." The Mac firmware research was conducted by Kovah, owner of LegbaCore, a firmware security consultancy, and Trammell Hudson, a security...

JMR announces BlueStor DataMover appliance
JMR Electronics ( has announced the availability of their new BlueStor DataMover appliance. The JMR DataMover appliance is a high speed enterprise class data mover that operates at near line speed and is independent of file size or depth of directory nesting. This allows users to transfer large and small files across networks, whether locally, across the nation, or around the world. The system includes the capability to compress, de-duplicate, encrypt, and difference data, in virtually any combination, during data movement. All of these features operate at full bandwidth, independent of any latency introduced by the distance between the source and destination. With the DataMover, typical transfers across a 10GbE fiber optic link are in excess of 925MB/s with a 300ms latency and approximately 1.1 GB/s with lower latencies. JMR has tested file transfers inclusive of media files, such as DPX, large contiguous mezzanine files, and metadata files that typically choke even...

Apple in third place for smartphone sales in China
As market consolidation continues in China, one in three smart phones shipped were from Huawei or Xiaomi in the second quarter (Q2) of 2015, according to the Canalys research group ( Xiaomi regained its crown as the largest smart phone vendor in China with 15.9% market share, according to Canalys estimates. However Huawei is hot on its heels, growing 48% sequentially — the fastest growing vendor in the top ten. Huawei’s 15.7% share leaves a very slim lead for Xiaomi. Apple fell to third place, followed by Samsung and Vivo. "The China smart phone market continues to mature, remaining stagnant quarter-on-quarter. Competition among major brands has never been so intense. Huawei recorded the highest smart phone shipments in its history without compromising its product margin or profitability. Apple and Samsung have both increased their sales activities in the China market, expanding rapidly in channel coverage through flagship stores and small to medium size phone...

Apple may be launching an iCloud and Siri-based voicemail service
According to Business Insider (, Apple employees are testing a voicemail service that uses Siri — the company's "personal assistant" on iOS devices — to answer your calls and transcribe voicemail messages. Apple's iCloud service will then send you the text of the transcribed voicemail. This means you'll never need to listen to your voicemails again, says Business Insider, which says the new service is being prepared for launch in 2016. According to the article, this is how it will work: When someone using iCloud Voicemail is unable to take a call, Siri will answer instead of letting the call go to a standard digital audio recorder. iCloud Voicemail can relay information about where you are and why you can't pick up the phone to certain people. Siri will transcribe any incoming voicemails.
