Law firm investigating retail pharmacies for blocking Apple Pay
The law firm of Schubert Jonckheer & Kolbe (www.schubertlawfirm.com) has launched an investigation into the conduct of retail pharmacies CVS and Rite Aid over their decision to block contactless payments, including Apple Pay and Google Wallet, in their retail stores. The firm is currently considering a potential class action to restore Apple Pay service at CVS and Rite Aid stores. Swedish hacker claims to have found 'serious' security...
A white-hat hacker from Sweden says he's found a "serious" security hole in Mac OS X Yosemite that could allow an attacker to take control of your Mac, reports Macworld UK (http://tinyurl.com/m5etd52). Emil Kvarnhammar, a hacker at Swedish security firm Truesec, calls the vulnerability "rootpipe." He says it's a "privilege escalation vulnerability," which means that even without a password an attacker could gain the highest level of access on a machine, known as root access. From there, the attacker has full control of the system. Apple hasn't fixed the flaw yet, Kvarnhammar says, so Truesec won't provide details of how it works.

When a Mac is operated without a display attached, often as a high-powered, whisper-quiet home or professional server, the GPU [graphical processing unit] stays inactive. This leads to poor performance when the system is accessed remotely. Without an active GPU, the user interface lags, animation stutters, and cursor movement, navigation, and typing all suffer.   The NewerTech Headless Mac Video Accelerator provides a fix that makes the remote experience run smooth again, enabling a headless Mac to behave as if it already had an attached display, according to NewerTech CEO Larry O'Connor. This activates the GPU, taking full advantage of its power to restore...
