ProtectStar debuts Data Shredder for Mac 2017
ProtectStar has debuted Data Shredder for Mac 2017, their new military grade data deletion tool for macOS. The app purportedly deletes data using methods that meet and exceed government, military, and industry standards. Data Shredder for Mac Professional uses certified deletion algorithms, including: DoD 5220.22-M ECE, Peter Gutmann, DoD 5220.22-M, HMG Infosec No.5, German BSI-2011-VS, US Army AR380-19 and more. Data Shredder for Mac Military Edition uses those same algorithms. Plus, it makes use of enhanced military deletion methods like NATO standard, US Navy NAVSO P-5239-26 (MFM & RLL), USAF AFSSI-5020, BSI TL-03423 and CSEC ITSG-06. Data Shredder for Mac 2017 requires macOS 10.11 or higher. It costs $19.90; the “military edition” is $29.90.

USB 3.0 Promoter Group announces USB 3.2 Update
The USB 3.0 Promoter Group (www.usb.org)— of which Apple is a member — has announced the pending release of the USB 3.2 specification, an incremental update that defines multi-lane operation for new USB 3.2 hosts and devices. USB Type-C cables were designed to support multi-lane operation to ensure a path for scalable performance. New USB 3.2 hosts and devices can now be designed as multi-lane solutions, allowing for up to two lanes of 5Gbps or two lanes of 10 Gbps operation. This enables platform developers to continue advancing USB products to fit their customers’ needs by effectively doubling the performance across existing cables. For example, a USB 3.2 host connected to a USB 3.2 storage device will now be capable of realizing over 2 GB/sec data transfer performance over an existing USB Type-C™ cable that is certified for SuperSpeed USB 10 Gbps. For users to obtain the full benefit of this performance increase, a new USB 3.2 host must be used with a new USB 3.2 device and the...

proDAD brings its Mercalli SAL video stabilizer app to the Mac
proDAD has brought its Mercalli SAL video stabilizer to the Mac after years of being Windows only. Mercalli SAL Mac is a new, full-featured, stand-alone macOS native application. It uses the Mercalli V4 stabilization engine to correct shaky, bent, and warped videos. It’s a native 64-bit macOS app loaded with professional features that include two levels of CMOS distortion correction and fisheye warp removal. Automated batch video analysis speeds your workflow and you can preview, trim, and split clips then export rendered video in a wide range of formats including ProRes 4444 and all flavors of ProRes 422. Mercalli SAL Mac provides intelligent stabilization profiles (presets) that eliminate the need for manual fine-tune adjustment (though you can also tweak the settings if you wish) . Why is Mercalli SAL Mac a stand-alone application and not a Final Cut Pro X plug-in? “We've discovered that editors prefer the simplicity of not being forced to use an NLE system,” says Robert...
