ITC to review decision in Apple/Samsung case
The U.S. International Trade Commission has decided to review an earlier decision that found Samsung Electronics' products infringed four patents owned by Apple, reports "InfoWorld" (http://tinyurl.com/by27pch).
The four patents relate to the ornamental design of a device, commands through finger contacts on touchscreen displays, a method and apparatus for producing translucent images on a device, and audio I/O headset plug and plug circuitry.
The commission has decided to review a decision in October by the administrative law judge (ALJ), which found that Samsung had infringed four Apple patents in its products, while also ruling that Apple's complaint with regard to two other patents was disallowed, notes "InfoWorld."
This is all part of the ongoing, global legal battle. Apple and Samsung have filed more than 30 lawsuits against each other across four continents. For example, Apple alleges that Samsung copied the slide-to-unlock technology of its iPhone and iPad devices.

Analyst: iPad sales may be lower than expected
In a note to clients -- as reported by "CNET" (http://tinyurl.com/anm2ffs) -- J.P. Morgan analyst Mark Moskowitz says iPad sales for the last fiscal quarter may be lower than expected due to constrained supplies -- though this is part of a short-term "blip."
He thinks unit sales of the iPad and iPad mini combined will be lighter than expected for the final quarter of 2012. Moskowitz is now predicting unit sales of 18.4 million, down from his previous forecast of 20.1 million.
"Our research indicates that near-term supply constraints impacted iPad sell-in activity during the seasonally-stronger holiday season," the analyst says. "Supply did not improve until early December. In our view, it was a supply, not demand issue."
