ZAGG debuts Rugged Book keyboard/detachable case for the iPad
ZAGG ( has announced the $129.99 Rugged Book, a wireless keyboard and detachable case for the Apple iPad, 9.7-inch iPad Pro, iPad Air, and iPad Air 2. It boasts four modes (book, keyboard, case, and video), an adjustable cradle hinge for 180 degrees of viewing angles, and a detachable keyboard with reinforced metal plating. The Rugged Book also features four layers of construction that meet military drop-test standards, allowing it to protect the device from drops from up to two meters/6.6 feet, says Charlie Quong, vice president, product development for ZAGG. Backlit keys, available in seven different colors, make typing easy in low-light conditions, he adds. The rechargeable battery purportedly lasts up to two years between charges; built-in magnets activate the keyboard’s sleep/wake function to preserve battery life.

Bare Bones Software Releases BBEdit 12.1
Bare Bones Software ( has updated BBEdit, its HTML and text editor, to version 12.1. It can now open significantly larger files and can perform more large-scale operations on big files than was possible in previous versions. Performance has been improved for opening and saving large files as well. New Touch Bar support provides access to commonly used functions in the FTP/SFTP browser, Text Factory, "Preview in BBEdit" and editing windows. Version 12.1 also adds enhancements to "Go To Line" and "Preview in BBEdit" features. The upgrade addresses common color problems when using multiple shots and/or multiple cameras.  For general multicam shoots RE:Match matches, as best it can, one sequence's color appearance to match that of another. For stereo pairs, the software can further refine the overall color match by taking into account that the two views are captured at the same time with a relatively small distance between the views. In addition, RE:Match is also able to propagate color changes into areas that are present in only one view. Apple’s revenue and EPS hit all-time records
Apple has announced financial results for its fiscal 2018 first quarter that ended December 30, 2017. The company posted quarterly revenue of $88.3 billion, an increase of 13% from the year-ago quarter and an all-time record, and quarterly earnings per diluted share of $3.89, up 16%, also an all-time record. Apple has introduced what it says is a “significant update” to the Health app with the iOS 11.3 beta, debuting a feature for customers to see their medical records right on their iPhone. Apple has released macOS High Sierra 10.13.3, iOS 11.2.5, watchOS 4.2.2, and tvOS 11.2.5. Apple says macOS High Sierra 10.13.2 provides security and feature improvements — including a bug fix for a glitch that allowed the Mac App Store menu in System Preferences to be unlocked with any password. . The app is made available under an interesting sales model: it’s free to use with no time restrictions, but an in-app purchase will permanently unlock all premium features released in the coming year. With Agenda, you group notes for each project into a timeline. Notes can be manually ordered in the timeline, or given a date. They can also be coupled to events in the Calendar app.

Apple teams with Malala Fund to support girls’ education
Apple and Malala Fund announced that Apple will become the fund’s first Laureate partner, enabling a significant expansion of Malala’s effort to support girls’ education and advocate for equal opportunity. Led by Nobel Peace Prize Laureate Malala Yousafzai, Malala Fund champions every girl’s right to 12 years of free, safe, quality education. With Apple’s support, Malala Fund expects to double the number of grants awarded by its Gulmakai Network and extend funding programs to India and Latin America with the initial goal of extending secondary education opportunities to more than 100,000 girls.
