Apple upgrades its pro video apps
Apple has updated its pro video apps: Final Cut Pro X, Motion and Compressor —with feature tweaks, performance improvements and bug fixes. Final Cut Pro 10.3.2 changes include:
° Ability to add custom folders of audio files to the Sound Effects browser;
° Using ripple delete on audio-only clips no longer disables the selected range;
° Audio meters retain custom width after relaunch;
° Improves responsiveness when editing very long projects;
° Improves performance when exporting H.264 files and changing frame rate;
° Exporting ProRes 4444 files with transparency using Compressor creates a correct alpha channel.

Notebook arrives on the Mac
Zoho has launched Notebook for Mac (http://zoho.to/notebook), a new, free note-taking app.
Notebook's mobile apps introduced the concept of Note Cards: dedicated note types for text, checklists, audio, photos, and sketches. The same concept has been applied to the Mac app, creating a “simple and enjoyable note-taking experience,” according to Raju Vegesna, chief evangelist of Zoho.
A notebook is a personal, thoughtful space. Notebook encourages users to make the app their own by providing 25-plus hand-drawn notebook covers to choose from, and the option to add their own. Individual notes can be grouped and color coded with default colors or by choosing from a color wheel.

GarageBand and Logic Pro X music apps get major updates
Apple has announced major updates to its music creation apps with new features for music makers of all levels on iPhone, iPad and Mac. GarageBand for iOS 2.2 now features the creative synthesizer Alchemy and a new sound browser designed to make searching through instruments and patches easier. Logic Pro X 10.3 for macOS gets a modern interface, new features for professional audio production as well as support for the Touch Bar on the new MacBook Pro.
Logic Pro X users can also remotely add new tracks to their Logic sessions from their iPhone or iPad when they’re away from their Mac. With a new share option, users can upload a special GarageBand-compatible version of a Logic project to iCloud, which they can then open on their iOS devices and add new recordings whenever inspiration strikes. When the project is saved back to iCloud, any newly added tracks will automatically appear in the original Logic project the next time it’s opened on a Mac.

AKVIS updates its Photo Correction Bundle
AKVIS has updated the four programs comprising the Photo Correction Bundle: Enhancer 15.5, Noise Buster 10.1, Refocus 6.5, and HDRFactory 5.5. The new versions offer improved compatibility with Photoshop CC 2017, provide a vector-based user interface with support for Ultra HD resolution, fix some bugs, and bring other changes.

Bluetooth 5 is now available
The Bluetooth Special Interest Group (SIG) officially adopted Bluetooth 5 (www.bluetooth.com/bluetooth5) as the latest version of the Bluetooth core specification. Consumers can expect to see products supporting the spec in two to six months.
Key updates to Bluetooth 5 include longer range, faster speed, and larger broadcast message capacity, as well as improved interoperability and coexistence with other wireless technologies, according to Mark Powell, executive director of the Bluetooth SIG.
He adds that feature updates include four times range, two times speed, and eight times broadcast message capacity. Longer range powers whole home and building coverage, for more robust and reliable connections. Higher speed enables more responsive, high-performance devices. Increased broadcast message size increases the data sent for improved and more context relevant solutions.

The tool is a substitute for the classic desktop calculator machines. All entries are recorded on a virtual paper roll. Apple posts supplemental security update for Mac OS X El Capitan
Apple has released a supplemental security update for Mac OS X El Capitan (the predecessor to macOS Sierra. According to Apple, it “fixes a kernel issue that may cause your Mac to occasionally become unresponsive.”
The update originally was released in December 2016, but has been reissued. You can obtain the update by launching the Mac App Store app, then checking for updates.

CES: Koogeek debuts family of HomeKit-compatible products
Koogeek (http://www.koogeek.com/) unveiled a range of new Apple HomeKit compatible products at this week’s Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas. HomeKit is a framework that allows control of compatible home automation devices through iOS and Siri.
Koogeek is one of China’s earliest adopters of the platform. It’s HomeKit compatible products include an US$59.99 Smart Health Scale, $34.99 Wi-Fi Enabled Smart Plug, and $50.99- Wi-Fi Enabled Smart Socket. All products are available now.
SpriTec introduces ZipTite for the Mac
SpriTec Software has introduced ZipTite (http://www.ziptite.pro), a utility app for creating and sharing zip archives on the Mac. Users can create password-protected Zip Archives.
Archives based on the files being archived. Users can choose where Archives should be placed on their Mac and can even share them via email, Air Drop, Dropbox, iCloud, Messages and FTP. It's all done via drag ’n drop. Since ZipTite lives in the Menu Bar, it is available at all times.

Henge Docks debuts new products and partnership at CES 2017
Henge Docks (www.hengedocks.com) debuted a suite of new products at this week’s Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas, including Horizontal and Vertical Docks for the new MacBook Pro, as well as the introduction of an all-new product line with the first-ever Tethered Dock.

App Store shatters records on New Year’s Day
Apple says its App Store welcomed 2017 with its busiest single day ever on New Year’s Day, capping a record-breaking holiday season. There were nearly US$240 million in purchases.
In 2016 alone, developers earned over $20 billion, up over 40% from 2015. Since the App Store launched in 2008, developers have earned over $60 billion, creating “amazing” app experiences for App Store customers across iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch, Apple TV and Mac, according to Philip Schiller, Apple’s senior vice president of Worldwide Marketing. Customers broke all-time records this holiday season with purchases from the App Store topping $3 billion in December.
In the same month, Nintendo’s Super Mario Run made history with more than 40 million downloads in just four days after its release, and was the most downloaded app globally on Christmas Day and New Year’s Day. Super Mario Run is also among last year’s top 10 most downloaded apps worldwide, with Pokémon Go taking the top spot.

Elgato introduces Thunderbolt 3 Dock
Elgato (www.elgato.com) has introduced the Thunderbolt 3 Dock, which enables you to connect and charge your MacBook Pro or Windows notebook with only one cable. It drives up to two additional displays without compromising the 4K resolution and smooth 60 Hz frame rate, according to Markus Fest, general manager of Elgato.
Providing up to 85 W of power, the Elgato Thunderbolt 3 Dock charges your notebook through the same cable you use to connect it to your MacBook Pro or Windows laptop. USB-C accessories will be powered with up to 15 W, while the built-in USB 3.0 ports can even charge your iPad or iPhone at full speed.

OWC announces the OWC DEC for MacBook Pros
