SoftRAID revved to version 5.5.5
OWC Holdings has released SoftRAID version 5.5.5, featuring extra data protection for hardware failures, Japanese localization, and additional command line support. Apple has released the eighth beta of macOS Sierra for developers and the seventh beta for public beta testers. The final version is due this fall. Apple announces special event for Sept. 7
Press invitations have gone out for an Apple event to be held Wednesday, Sept. 7, at 10 a.m. (Pacific). The invite reads “See you on the 7th.” The iPhone 7 is almost certain to be announced at the event. An Apple Watch 2 is likely to debut. Also possible is a revamped MacBook Pro line-up. This is the fifth consecutive year Apple has held an early-September product event.

Apple has released the eighth beta of iOS 10 to developers and the seven beta for public beta testers. The finished version of the operating system is due this fall. Developers can download the beta through the Apple Developer Center or the Software Update mechanism in the App Store. AIC (www.aicpc.com) will demonstrate its new all-flash VMware Virtual SAN Ready Node Solution at VMworld 2016 at the Mandalay Bay Convention Center in Las Vegas beginning Aug. 28. The new line of all-flash array hardware is built with memory and solid-state disks (SSDs) from Micron along with SAS host bus adapters from ATTO. IC's new solution takes advantage of solid-state disks. The Micron SSDs are fully optimized for VMware Virtual SAN. Organizations looking to maximize their workload performance can either integrate the solution into their existing VMware cluster or to build a new cluster using a minimum of three nodes. The solution from AIC comes in two versions, both supporting 12 processor cores. The SDS-V110 is available with 64 GB and 128 GB RAM options, while the SDS-V224 comes in 64 GB, 128 GB and 256 GB RAM options. Typinator for OS X adds over 50 new features
Ergonis Software (www.ergonis.com) has announced Typinator 6.10, a new version of their text expander for Mac OS X. It’s a tool for automating the process of inserting frequently used text and auto-correcting typing errors. According to the folks at Ergonis, version 6.10 comes with 50 improvements, including new features, compatibility enhancements, as well as fixes and workarounds for known issues. Among the new features are highlighting of markers in expansions, a built-in Case function for selecting different text fragments depending on an input value, support for logical values in calculations, new and extended arithmetic functions like min, max, round, and more. Typinator requires Mac OS X 10.6 or newer. The upgrade to Typinator 6.10 is free for anyone who owns a valid license for Typinator 6.x. Upgrade paths are available for owners of older licenses. Apple has released the 10th sixth public beta and seventh development beta of iOS 10. The finished version is due this fall.
