Apple opens development office in Hyderabad, India
Apple has announced the opening of a new office in Hyderabad, India, that will focus on development of Maps for the Mac, iPhone, iPad, and Apple Watch. This investment will accelerate Maps development and create up to 4,000 jobs. “Apple is focused on making the best products and services in the world and we are thrilled to open this new office in Hyderabad which will focus on Maps development,” said Apple CEO Tim Cook. “The talent here in the local area is incredible and we are looking forward to expanding our relationships and introducing more universities and partners to our platforms as we scale our operations.” Apple has been continually updating and adding new features to Maps, including 3D views, the Flyover feature and tools to help customers find places to shop, eat and explore nearby areas. Emojis for Apple Mail now available on MailButler
Feingeist Software has updated MailButler (https://www.feingeist.io/mailbutler), its personal assistant add-on for Apple Mail on the Mac. With its various functions, it simplifies, optimizes and streamlines working with emails. Now users can include emojis into their emails. This can be done with just one click: the emojis button has been added right into the utility bar in the email window. MailButler requires Mac OS X Yosemite or El Capitan. Youtubers Life comes out on Steam for the Mac
U-Play Online has announced Youtubers Life, a mixture of two genres, life sim and tycoon. It’s launching simultaneously for the Mac and Windows on Steam (http://store.steampowered.com/app/428690/). The game is in “early access” (think beta). During this period, the game will just include the option of recording videos based on gaming —it reportedly takes more than 10 hours to finish the game— but four extra vertical channels will be added in the near future: music, fitness, cuisine and fashion. Apple announces new iOS App Design and Development Accelerator
Apple has announced a new initiative to support engineering talent and accelerate growth in India’s iOS developer community. The company will establish a Design and Development Accelerator in Bengaluru, the home of India’s startup scene. Tens of thousands of developers in India make apps for iOS, and this initiative will provide additional, specialized support for them, says Apple CEO Tim Cook. Apple’s team will work to inspire and instruct developers on best practices, help them hone their skills and transform the design, quality and performance of their apps on the iOS platform, he adds. Apple celebrates Chinese music with GarageBand update
Apple has announced an update to GarageBand for both OS X and iOS that celebrates the rich history of Chinese music with new instruments and extensive Chinese language localization throughout the app. The upgrades build on GarageBand’s extensive collection of sounds, this update adds traditional Chinese instruments — the pipa, erhu and Chinese percussion — along with 300 Apple-created Chinese musical loops. Apple releases plethora of software updates
Apple has released a plethora of software updates for iTunes, OS X, iOS, watchOS and tvOS. iTunes 12.4 for OS X sports a redesigned interface that’s designed to be simpler. It also hopefully resolves an issue that could cause music stored in iTunes to be deleted. iTunes 12.4 can be downloaded at the Mac App Store. Mac OS X 10.11.5 offers bug fixes and security enhancements. It’s also available at the Mac App Store. iOS 9.3.2 focuses mainly on under-the-hood performance improvements and bug fixes. You can download it at the Apple App Store or via the General/Software Updates component of the Settings app. tvOS 9.2.1 and watchOS 2.2.1 are designed to deal with various bugs. The tvOS update can be found in the fourth-generation Apple TV's settings app. Apple Watch updates are installed through the iOS Watch app on a connected iPhone.

Apple invests $1 billion in China’s Didi Chuxing
Apple has invested $1 billion in Chinese ride-hailing service Didi Chuxing, a move that Apple CEO Tim Cook said would help the company better understand the critical Chinese market, according to “Reuters” (http://tinyurl.com/gm23k6u). He said in an interview that he saw opportunities for Apple and Didi Chuxing to collaborate in the future. "We are making the investment for a number of strategic reasons, including a chance to learn more about certain segments of the China market," Cook told “Reuters.” "Of course, we believe it will deliver a strong return for our invested capital over time as well.” Didi Chuxing, formerly known as Didi Kuaidi, said in a statement that this was the single largest investment it has ever received. The company, which previously raised several billion dollars, dominates the ride-sharing market in China. The company said it completes more than 11 million rides a day, with more than 87% of the market for private car-hailing in China.

It’s designed to help you perform tasks like searching the web, opening apps and creating todos as well as more complex tasks using only your voice. Corel debuts AfterShot Pro 3
Corel has debuted AfterShot Pro 3 (www.AfterShotPro.com) for Mac OS X, Windows, and Linux. The new version of the photo editing and organization software adds a highlight recovery algorithm, watermarking, layer-based blemish correction, as well as dynamic update abilities that enable new camera RAW profiles to be supported faster than ever.  AfterShot Pro 3 enables photographers to organize thousands, cull from hundreds, and perfect a single photo, according to Greg Wood, senior director of Photo Products at Corel. The software provides access to a variety of plug-ins and add-ons direct from the community. Observer for OS X adds support for more sites
QotoQot (https://qotoqot.com/) has announced Qbserve 1.2, an update to its automatic private time tracker for Mac OS X. The app “knows” productivity rates for thousands of sites and apps and has the ability to differentiate between chats in Skype, Slack, and Telegram, YouTube videos, and subreddits. All the tracked information is stored privately on the user's machine. Features include flexible tracking settings, dynamic dock & menu bar icons, detailed feedback charts, alerts for goals, and reminders. EarthDesk 7 adds earthquakes and other real-time data
Xeric Design (http://www.xericdesign.com) has released EarthDesk 7, an update to its real-time dynamic desktop map for Mac OS X. The app replaces your static desktop with an image of the Earth showing current sun, moon and city illumination, as well as real-time cloud coverage. A data subscription offers additional real-time information including earthquakes and named storms, allowing you to visualize hurricanes and other real-time events on your Mac. EarthDesk 7 provides improved support for multiple screens and Retina displays. MacPaw's Gemini, a Mac-only duplicate finder and cleaner, has been upgraded to version 2. According to CEO Oleksandr Kosovan, here’s a list of the changes…. Apple updates iWork apps for OS X, iOS
Apple's iWork apps (Pages, Numbers, and Keynote for OS X and iOS have been updated with bug fixes and stability improvements. Pages for Mac has been updated to version 5.6.2, while Keynote for Mac is 6.6.2, and Numbers for Mac is updated to version 3.6.2. All are available at the Mac App Store. Mac Shutdown upgraded to version 4.0
Tension Software (www.tensionsoftware.com) has upgraded Mac Shutdown to version 4.0. The utility can use “Soft Shutdown” and “Hard Shutdown” to power down your Mac. Soft Shutdown is issued at the Finder level and tells all running apps to quit before shutting down the Mac. The Hard shutdown and can shut down an app that doesn’t want to quit before rebooting the Mac. Mac Shutdown 4.0 requires Mac OS X 10.10 or higher and costs $12. Tension Software has released Data Extractor 1.4.2 for Mac OS X. The app allows users to extract data in a sparse format contained inside files and collect them in an internal structured table.
