Apple serves up watchOS 3.1
Apple has released watchOS 3.1. According to Apple, it provides:
° A new option to replay bubble and full screen effects in Messages;
° Messages effects can play with Reduce Motion enabled;
° Fixes an issue that could cause the notification for Timer complete to be delivered twice;
° Resolves an issue that could prevent Apple Watch Series 2 from charging;
° Resolves an issue where Activity rings may disappear from the watch face;
° Fixes an issue that prevented Force Touch options from appearing in some third-party apps.
You can update your Apple Watch to watchOS 3.1 via the Apple Watch app on your iPhone.
Elements+ revved to version 9.0
Andrei Doubrovski has released Elements+ 9.0 (http://elementsplus.net/), an update of his enhancement patch for Adobe Photoshop Elements. Zevrix Solutions has announced BatchOutput DOC 2.4.7, a compatibility update to its output automation solution for Microsoft Word on macOS.
BatchOutput automates printing and exporting of multiple documents to PDF, and allows to carry out professional PDF production directly from Word bringing PDF creation options right to the user's fingertips. The new version makes BatchOutput DOC compatible with the recently released macOS 10.12 Sierra.

Apple has released macOS Sierra 10.12.1. It can be downloaded from the Software Update function in the Mac App Store. According to Apple, macOS Sierra 10.1.2:
° Adds an automatic smart album in Photos for Depth Effect images taken on iPhone 7 Plus ;
° Improves the compatibility of Microsoft Office when using iCloud Desktop and Documents;
° Fixes an issue that may prevent Mail from updating when using a Microsoft Exchange account ;
° Fixes an issue that caused text to sometimes paste incorrectly when using Universal Clipboard ;
° Improves reliability of Auto Unlock with Apple Watch;
° Improves security and stability in Safari.
Apple posts iOS 10.1 and tvOS 10.0.1
Apple has released a finished version of iOS 10.1, bringing a promised Portrait shooting mode to owners of the iPhone 7 Plus. It also provides various bug fixes.
Portrait mode is a software feature that uses the two lenses of the iPhone 7 Plus to create the look and feel of an image shot with portrait settings on a camera with a telephoto lens. You access portrait mode from within the Camera app simply by swiping left and right in the viewfinder.
The update is a free download, available either through iTunes or over-the-air via the Settings > General > Software Update menu in iOS.
Apple has also posted tvOS 10.0.1 with bug fixes and security improvements.

DDoS attacks causing Internet disruptions
A series of denial of service attacks on a major DNS provider have caused major issues across the internet, with outages of some of the largest sites and services including the New York Times, CNN, Netflix, and Twitter experienced across about half of the U.S. Now the Department of Homeland Security is getting involved, reports AppleInsider (www.appleinsider.com).
The attacks initially targeted DNS provider Dyn's servers at about 11 a.m. (Eastern) were mitigated by the company's countermeasures. At about 12:20 p.m. (Eastern), the attacks continued and the outages are now expanding to California, Texas, Washington, and even the UK.
The attacks are now being monitored by the United States Department of Homeland Security, and the agency is "investigating all potential causes" of the massive disruption. Station is a new multilevel dock for macOS
True North Software has introduced Station 1.1, a multilevel (hierarchical) launcher for macOS. It’s designed to promote a more natural organization of applications and documents into folders.
With nested folders, you can arrange items in Station in a way that fits your workflow with an uncluttered look and feel. Scalability is greatly increased through logical groupings thus increasing the sheer number of items that can be added to Station without having to shrink the launcher size, according to the folks at True North Software.

Apple sends out press invites to a ‘hello again’ event
Apple has sent out invitations to members of the press for an event at its Cupertino, California, headquarters on Thursday, Oct. 27. The invitation is dubbed “hello again”

Apple releases new iOS, macOS Sierra betas
Apple has posted the fifth iOS 10.1 beta; it’s the second developer beta released this week. The beta is available to registered developers and public beta testers. Apple has also pushed out beta 5 for macOS Sierra 10.12.1.
The developer betas are available at the Apple Developer Center. Non-developers must be registered with Apple's Beta Software Program to obtain it.

Fourth iOS 10.1 beta released
Apple has released a fourth iOS 10.1 beta to registered developers, as well as the general public. The developer beta is available at the Apple Developer Center. Those already beta testing iOS 10.1 can download the new beta as an over-the-air update. Non-develoers must be registered with Apple's Beta Software Program to obtain it.

Adobe has posted security updates for its Flash Player plugin that deal with vulnerabilities that could allow a hacker to take control of a targeted computer.
For Mac owners, the updates include Flash Player Desktop Runtime 126.96.36.199, Flash Player Extended Support Release 188.8.131.522, and Flash Player for Google Chrome 184.108.40.206. Apple has released the the fourth developer beta of macOS 10.12.1. The developer beta can be downloaded through the Apple Developer Center or the Software Update mechanism in the Mac App Store.
Basic Pie Charts released for ConceptDraw solutions

Cisdem conjures up OCR Wizard 4.0 for macOS
Cisdem has conjured up version 4.0 of OCR Wizard. The app can convert PDFs, scanned documents, and image files in over 40 languages into searchable and editable files.
Version 4.0 reportedly provides more accurate text recognition and adds business card recognition and new formats. It’s also macOS Sierra compatible.

Typinator is ready for macOS Sierra
Ergonis Software (www.ergonis.com) has announced Typinator 6.11, a new version of their text expander for Mac OS X.
It’s a tool for automating the process of inserting frequently used text and auto-correcting typing errors. Version 6.11 is compatible with macOS Sierra.
Typinator requires macOS 10.6 or newer. The upgrade to Typinator 6.11 is free for anyone who owns a valid license for Typinator 6.x. Upgrade paths are available for owners of older licenses. For new users the price is $24.99.
PhatWare WritePad Handwriting Recognition Engine released as...
PhatWare Corp., a professional software and application developer, has announced that the entire source code of its multilingual WritePad handwriting recognition engine is now available under GPL v.3 license.
The company says theWritePad Handwriting Recognition Engine (HWRE) is the first fully functional, self-contained handwriting recognition engine to be released as open source. The engine supports most operating systems and includes build scripts for macOS, iOS, Google Android, Microsoft Windows and Windows Mobile, and various distributions of Linux. Compiled libraries and sample code for the WritePad HWRE are available separately in the WritePad SDK repository at https://github.com/phatware/WritePadSDK.
Apple releases third beta of iOS 10.1
Apple has released the third beta of iOS 10.1, which includes the Portrait feature that applies a DSLR-like blur effect over photos using the dual lens system.
