Apple has released new beta versions of OS X, iOS, and tvOS. They are, respectively, OS X 10.11.6, iOS 9.3.3., and tvOS 9.2.2.
All are available to registered developers via the Apple Developer Center. There’s no press info on what’s available in the upgrades.

Tension Software updates Mac Restart to version 2.0
Tension Software (www.tensionsoftware.com) has revved Mac Restart to version 2.0. The app is used for “soft” and “hard” restarts.
A soft restart is issued at the Finder level and quits all running apps before restarting the Mac. A hard restart is issued at the system level and offers a low level of probability of having the restart interrupted by an app refusing to quit.
Mac Restart 2.0 can be used as a status menu only app that’s always available from the menu. It also uses the latest Apple XPC technology to provide admin right actions.

FXpansion introduces Geist2 beat production system
FXpansion has launched Geist2 (http://tinyurl.com/jsakrgb), an update of its $199 sound-sculpting and beat production system with streamlined sample manipulation, arrangement, and modulation capabilities for intuitive and accelerated workflow.
It’s available for Mac OS X (10.9 or higher) and Windows (7 SP1 or higher), as 64-bit only AAX, 32- and 64-bit AU and VST — and as standalone versions. Geist2 is a step-sequencer and sample-based drum machine realized in software. It offers a way to build beats. Grooves and rhythms can be performed and programmed faster in version 2.
For slicing longer loops, the refined Slicer in the upgrade combined with up to 64 pads allows for fast, non-destructive chopping of beats with automatic pattern extraction. This makes it quicker to create custom loops. Existing Geist owners can upgrade to Geist2 for $99.

Apple has revealed its new store on San Francisco’s Union Square, offering many new features and services rolling out to Apple retail stores worldwide. The new store will open its signature 42-foot tall sliding glass doors to customers on Saturday, May 21 at 10 a.m.

Apple opens development office in Hyderabad, India
Apple has announced the opening of a new office in Hyderabad, India, that will focus on development of Maps for the Mac, iPhone, iPad, and Apple Watch. This investment will accelerate Maps development and create up to 4,000 jobs.
“Apple is focused on making the best products and services in the world and we are thrilled to open this new office in Hyderabad which will focus on Maps development,” said Apple CEO Tim Cook. “The talent here in the local area is incredible and we are looking forward to expanding our relationships and introducing more universities and partners to our platforms as we scale our operations.”

Apple announces new iOS App Design and Development Accelerator
Apple has announced a new initiative to support engineering talent and accelerate growth in India’s iOS developer community.
The company will establish a Design and Development Accelerator in Bengaluru, the home of India’s startup scene. Tens of thousands of developers in India make apps for iOS, and this initiative will provide additional, specialized support for them, says Apple CEO Tim Cook. Apple’s team will work to inspire and instruct developers on best practices, help them hone their skills and transform the design, quality and performance of their apps on the iOS platform, he adds.

Apple celebrates Chinese music with GarageBand update
Apple has announced an update to GarageBand for both OS X and iOS that celebrates the rich history of Chinese music with new instruments and extensive Chinese language localization throughout the app.
The upgrades build on GarageBand’s extensive collection of sounds, this update adds traditional Chinese instruments — the pipa, erhu and Chinese percussion — along with 300 Apple-created Chinese musical loops. Apple releases plethora of software updates
Apple has released a plethora of software updates for iTunes, OS X, iOS, watchOS and tvOS.
iTunes 12.4 for OS X sports a redesigned interface that’s designed to be simpler. It also hopefully resolves an issue that could cause music stored in iTunes to be deleted. iTunes 12.4 can be downloaded at the Mac App Store.
Mac OS X 10.11.5 offers bug fixes and security enhancements. It’s also available at the Mac App Store.
iOS 9.3.2 focuses mainly on under-the-hood performance improvements and bug fixes. You can download it at the Apple App Store or via the General/Software Updates component of the Settings app.
tvOS 9.2.1 and watchOS 2.2.1 are designed to deal with various bugs. The tvOS update can be found in the fourth-generation Apple TV's settings app. Apple Watch updates are installed through the iOS Watch app on a connected iPhone.

Chronos Inc. has rolled out iClipboard 6, an upgrade to its clipboard manager for Mac OS X (10.11 and later). According to Jerry Halls, vice president of Sales at Chronos, new features include:

° Support for long (instead of abbreviated) text clippings;
° An overhaul of plain text pasting so it's faster, easier, and not a global setting;
° On-the-fly text transformations instead of global setting;
° Clipping info shown directly in Shelf;
° An overhauled Shelf resizing to be less complicated;

Apple invests $1 billion in China’s Didi Chuxing
Apple has invested $1 billion in Chinese ride-hailing service Didi Chuxing, a move that Apple CEO Tim Cook said would help the company better understand the critical Chinese market, according to “Reuters” (http://tinyurl.com/gm23k6u). He said in an interview that he saw opportunities for Apple and Didi Chuxing to collaborate in the future.
"We are making the investment for a number of strategic reasons, including a chance to learn more about certain segments of the China market," Cook told “Reuters.” "Of course, we believe it will deliver a strong return for our invested capital over time as well.”
Didi Chuxing, formerly known as Didi Kuaidi, said in a statement that this was the single largest investment it has ever received. The company, which previously raised several billion dollars, dominates the ride-sharing market in China. The company said it completes more than 11 million rides a day, with more than 87% of the market for private car-hailing in China.
Stahl Labs releases new AI voice assistant for Mac OS X
Stahl Labs AB (http://stahltechnologies.com) has introduced Awa, a new AI voice assistant for Mac OS X. It’s designed to help you perform tasks like searching the web, opening apps and creating todos as well as more complex tasks using only your voice.
According to the folks at Stahl Labs, it’s like Apple’s Siri but for your Mac. Awa is based on a fully automated speech recognition and artificial intelligence engine that analyzes voice input in milliseconds, the company says.
"Our goal is to create the most intuitive assistant for Mac that understands what and when you need things done," says Joacim Sthl, founder of Awa. St. Clair Software has announced Default Folder X 5.0.4 (http://www.stclairsoft.com/DefaultFolderX/index.html), an upgrade to the utility for Mac OS X. Default Folder X enhances the file dialogs in all Mac OS X applications.
It provides fast navigation to your files, convenient previews, integrated Spotlight tagging, and more. SuperHot, the runaway first-person shooter, is now available on the Mac App Store.

EarthDesk 7 adds earthquakes and other real-time data
Xeric Design (http://www.xericdesign.com) has released EarthDesk 7, an update to its real-time dynamic desktop map for Mac OS X.
The app replaces your static desktop with an image of the Earth showing current sun, moon and city illumination, as well as real-time cloud coverage. A data subscription offers additional real-time information including earthquakes and named storms, allowing you to visualize hurricanes and other real-time events on your Mac.
EarthDesk 7 provides improved support for multiple screens and Retina displays. There are new positioning options including centering on a specific latitude/longitude or real-time data such as the location of the most recent earthquake. City labels now support multiple colors and different screens can show different sets of data. There’s a new city database with support for adding, editing and removing of cities. MacPaw's Gemini, a Mac-only duplicate finder and cleaner, has been upgraded to version 2. According to CEO Oleksandr Kosovan, here’s a list of the changes….
The app spots similar files in addition to identical duplicates: “similiars" aren’t 100% identical files, like duplicates, but they have so little difference that a user might consider some of them redundant.

Apple's iWork apps (Pages, Numbers, and Keynote for OS X and iOS have been updated with bug fixes and stability improvements.
Pages for Mac has been updated to version 5.6.2, while Keynote for Mac is 6.6.2, and Numbers for Mac is updated to version 3.6.2. All are available at the Mac App Store.
