Apple working to make iPhones even harder to crack
Apple engineers have begun developing new security measures that would make it impossible for the government to break into a locked iPhone using methods similar to those now at the center of a court fight in California, report The New York Times (http://tinyurl.com/zvs7anw), quoting unnamed “people close to the company and security experts.” “If Apple succeeds in upgrading its security — and experts say it almost surely will — the company will create a significant technical challenge for law enforcement agencies, even if the Obama administration wins its fight over access to data stored on an iPhone used by one of the killers in last year’s San Bernardino, Calif., rampage” the article says. “If the Federal Bureau of Investigation wanted to get into a phone in the future, it would need a new way to do so. That would most likely prompt a new cycle of court fights and, yet again, more technical fixes by Apple.”

Cambridge Audio releases earphones to raise money for Youth Music
Cambridge Audio, an UK hi-fi and home entertainment brand, have come up with a way to support the leading national music charity — by releasing their first ever earphones: the SE1 In Ear Monitors. From 10 am on Monday, Feb. 29, a limited run of just 1,000 SE1 earphones will be available to buy from www.cambridgeaudio.com.   Customers will be able to choose the price they pay for these high-spec earphones, estimated to have a market value of £150-£250. One hundred percent of the net price paid going to Youth Music (http://www.youthmusic.org.uk), a charity “using music-making to change the lives of young people in challenging circumstances.”   Cambridge Audio took their inspiration from innovative rock band Radiohead, who launched their In Rainbows album by inviting fans to pay what they felt the music was worth. Cambridge Audio have added a twist to this scheme by pledging to donate all proceeds to charity.   Youth Music invests in music-making projects for children and young people...

BrowserHub designed to help users manage multiple web browsers...
Guilherme Rambo has launched BrowserHub 1.0, a web browser based utility developed for Mac OS X. The app sits between links and the web browsers installed on the system, so users can create rules that determine what browser should be used depending on the context. You can create simple rules based on the URL and select a browser to open links matching those rules. Rules can be created based on protocol, host, path, file extension or app. So, for instance, the next time you click on a link in Mail, and the link matches that particular rule, it will open on the browser defined for that kind of link. Examples of rules that could be created with BrowserHub include: "open all YouTube links in Chrome," "open video links in VLC," or "open my bank's website on Internet Explorer in Parallels." The rules are created on an interface similar to Mail's rules preferences. BrowserHub 1.0 is being offered at a special launch sale of $9.99 and is available worldwide through the Mac App Store () in...

The F.B.I. caused Tim Cook to go into ‘bunker mode’
As everyone doubtless knows, Apple CEO Tim Cook has posted (http://www.apple.com/customer-letter/) saying the company will oppose an order from the U.S. government to unlock a shooter’s iPhone. Now the “New York Times” reports (http://tinyurl.com/hrcwkkl) that Cupertino, California-based company had asked the FBI to make its court application under seal, meaning that the legal arguments could be heard in private. However, the FBI chose instead to make it a public battle prompting Cook to “go into bunker mode,” the article adds. After December’s San Bernardino attack, Apple worked with the F.B.I. to gather data that had been backed up to the cloud from a work iPhone issued to one of the assailants, according to court filings. When investigators also wanted unspecified information on the phone that had not been backed up, the judge this week granted the order requiring Apple to create a special tool to help investigators more easily crack the phone’s passcode and get into the device.
