Orbicule announces Undercover for the iPhone
When outside, Undercover uses the built-in GPS to locate a lost or stolen device. Inside, the system tracks its location based on Wi-Fi networks and cell towers. Users can then log-in to their account to view their phone's location. In case of theft, users can report the iPhone stolen.
When Undercover is launched on a stolen device, it pretends to be a game. That encourages the thief to wait for the loading "game" while enabling Undercover to gather the most accurate location possible, says Peter Schols, president of Orbicule. This location is then immediately added to the user's account.
If an iPhone or iPod is lost, the user can set a message that will be displayed to the finder when he launches Undercover. At the same time, Undercover will transmit the phone's location.
