Let your iPad relax on the Lap Lounge
I'll give Targus' Lap Lounge for iPad 2 (http://bit.ly/qL6Ytz) this much: at least it's a new take on iPad accessories (if an imperfect one), and it's rare I see much innovation in this area.
The Lap Lounge is an US$49.99, soft, bean bag-filled cushion that conforms to your lap with a functional stand that Provides multiple viewing angles for the Apple tablet. The stand frames the iPad and Provides built-in sound amplification, by redirecting the sound toward the user. A zippered pocket stores a tuck-away carry handle and can double as an accessory pocket. The Lap Lounge also includes a stylus loop on the side.
All this is very convenient, and the sound redirection feature works better than I expected -- though, of course, it's no replacement for some external speakers. Just snap the iPad 2 into the stand, and adjust the angle to your liking.
The Lap Lounge comes in one color (beige), measures 12 x 10.75 x 3 inches and weighs just 1.7 pounds. You can sit with it for hours on your lap with no discomfort.
The big downside: it doesn't work with the Smart Cover, so you'll have to remove the Apple iPad cover to use it. The Lap Lounge also doesn't work with Smart Cover complementary Products such as the SmartFit2. This means your iPad may be nestled comfortably in the Lap Lounge, but it's display is left wide open to damages.
If you have kids or pets in the house, your Apple tablet is in a precarious position with the Lap Lounge. If you're child and/or pet free -- or if you can make sure your Lap Lounge-resting iPad is out of harm's way -- the Targus Product is a nice peripheral for those who use their iPads for long periods of time.
