360° Rotating Stand & Case puts a new spin on iPad cases
Targus' new US$59.99 iPad 2 case/stand (http://macte.ch/spx4t) offers a patent-pending 360° rotating mechanism. It's said mechanism that makes the case stand out from others; the hard shell rotates all the way around, so the Apple tablet can stand on a recline in either portrait or landscape orientation.
The Targus 360° Rotating Stand & Case is specifically designed for the iPad 2. It frames the Apple logo and allows the iPad to rotate both vertically and horizontally while in the case. Of course, leaving the Apple logo framed looks good, but also means that part of the iPad is exposed. In this case, it's a choice of style over substance. But in the world of iPad aesthetics, it's something many folks may prefer.
The inside face of the front cover has recessed ridges the holds the iPad 2 up at one of three angles, including a lower angle that's good for typing on the screen. It also converts into a stand to hold the iPad upright for hands-free viewing of video, ebooks and more.
The form-fitted design holds the iPad in place while the hard-sided exterior provides a sturdy, protective cover. The soft interior lining adds color and protects the device against scratches. The thin design makes it easy to carry inside of another case, adding little weight or thickness to the iPad itself.
However, for those of us who love our Apple Smart Cases, you'll have to detach it from the iPad 2 to use the Targus 360° Rotating Stand & Case. If you are using the Smart Cover, Targus has a $24.99, clear, Protective Skin (http://bit.ly/fSvpIp) that will protect the bottom of your iPad 2 and keep it from getting scratched. If you're not a fan of the Smart Cover -- which only protects the iPad's screen -- then no problem with the Targus rotating case.
The 360 Rotating Stand/Case for iPad 2 provides full access to all iPad functions so the iPad can be fully operational without leaving the case. It has a black hard shell exterior and black/blue interior made of material designed to help prevent scratches on sensitive accessories such as sunglasses or mobile phones. The case does add a bit of bulk to the iPad, weighing 1.30 pounds.
