Little Marauder (http://www.littlemarauder.com) has released Caliander, a new iCal alternative on the Mac App Store. The US$18.99 has a novel timeline based user interface, event creation using common English descriptions, and a global keyboard shortcut for adding events.

Since Caliander uses the same calendar database as iCal, it syncs just as usual, so there’s no need to migrate old calendars. It doesn’t use the conventional paper calendar layouts in favor of a novel, dynamic timeline layout, which can be panned and zoomed freely.

Caliander also has a perceptual mode, which squeezes together the distant future to show the near future in greater detail. This means that the software can show a detailed daily schedule while still reminding the user of things coming up in the next couple of days. Caliander requires Mac OS X 10.6.0 or later.
